Pretentiousness is something that can come in many ways, shapes and forms. This site, for example, has been called pretentious a fair number of times. Maybe that’s true, I wouldn’t exactly argue that it is completely untrue, but a little pretentiousness never hurt anybody. It is when the pretentiousness becomes overbearing, or a prominent trait in the girl that you have a problem.
Whether she is a photographer, a creative writer, a dancer, an actress, an artist, the creative types are prone to be snobby when it comes to their particular area of study. As an aspiring screenwriter, I can admit to being a little guilty of this myself. When people tell me romantic comedies have great stories, I get annoyed, because most of the stories are the same exact thing, with the details changed. Again, you could probably make this argument for any movie, but I just don’t see all straight romantic comedies as being “amazing” stories.
But these are the girls who, because they have taken several acting/ballet classes, can’t sit through any local performance of anything. Look, we all know community theater, or grade/high school performances aren’t going to the most amazing performances, but most people can go and at least appreciate it to some small extent. These girls on the other hand, sit and openly laugh or mock the lack of form on stuff. Knowledge is a bitch I suppose, but I have read crappy stories that I could get some enjoyment out of.
People in artistic pursuits like to pretend that their work is amazing. Ninety percent of the time it is self-indulgent and a copy of copy of their biggest influence. People very rarely tend to pave their own path. And with the way film and literature and photography are for the most part, that is pretty much rewarded for them. How many times do you go out to the movies or turn on the television to find some truly great, original stories? How many versions of CSI/Law and Order/ Medical and Procedural Dramas are on the air right now? How many times have we seen the sitcoms with the fat guy and the hot wife? Is anybody buying it anymore? Well clearly, yes…since they keep getting made.
But what gets me about art school girls is that they try so very hard to be “unique”. It’s in the way the dress, their indie music. Because, if you’ve heard of the indie music, the magic is immediately gone, and they have to find something more out there. They don’t want to see films for the escapist nature. They want subtitles and they want artistic integrity. They want to be intellectually sparked. I don’t get people that get off on intellectualism. Can’t you just enjoy the world for what it is? Why do you have to squeeze the beauty out of every single thing in your life?
nice advice. Snooty girls aren’t any fun.
Sounds like someone’s a little sexually frustrated. Much love from ETG.

Sounds like Chance Daryx could use a punch in the face.
This is very funny! p’haps you should date some trailer trash that doesn’t answer back….hm sounds like you want an art girl deep down
I think all arty types (male and female) are full of excess wind anyways. the problem with these guys are that they are all leftie starving poets, despite mom and dad paying the rent. really they have nothing at all new to say.
Nice post
NB: the following paragraphs reflect my opinions, totally.
Though there are intelligent girls with the credentials to judge. I think the girls you’re talking about in your post are the ones who know nothing in that field (no matter how aspiring they are) and pretend to be all-that by dissing other people’s work.
And there are people (boys and girls) who like ‘indie’ music not becuase it’s really their cup of tea at all but becuase of its small fanbase, they feel their taste in music is far superior to that of the rest of the world so it feeds their ego and solipsism to have scooped up a diamond in the rough.
But you know, it’s okay for some people to be overly pretentious. You only pretend if you really don’t have anything worthwhile to project.
Cheers to the people who do a healthy amount of pretending.
Your website, it’s so…kitsch.

This sentence is 9 words too long; art school types are snobbish about /everything/.
